What's a good atomizer(sprayer) for mold release fluid?

What's a good atomizer(sprayer) for mold release fluid?

What's a good atomizer(sprayer) for mold release fluid?

(OP)
I'm looking for a new atomizer to use it with mold release fluid but I'm having trouble to find a brand that would give me a better performance that the one that we are currently using (Sure Shot).
The Sure Shot works well but the cap gets blocked very soon and I'm not happy with the amount of the spray that produces (is a little bit small for what I'd like to).
I would appreciate especially the suggestions coming from people with experience on compression molding industries, however I'm open to all suggestions.

Thank you all,
Genti

RE: What's a good atomizer(sprayer) for mold release fluid?

People using our mold releases (Crystal® water-based mold releases, http://www.tse-industries.com/CrystalMold.asp)have good success with Binks (http://www.binks.com/) and Devilbis (http://www.devilbiss.com/) products.

When you say "is a little bit small for what I'd like to", are you referring to the particle size? Generally, smaller particle size is better for water-based release agents.

What type of mold release are you using? If it's water based, a smaller particle size will provide a thin even coat while minimally affecting tooling temperature and the tool should run longer (show less build up) with thinner coats.  Larger particle sizes or operators that fire hose release agent on can reduce tooling temperature by 5-10 degrees F.

You also mentioned that the current spray gun clogs up too soon on the tip.  When we have seen this in the past its typically cause by particles in the mold release or mold release curing up in the tip.  If his spray guns are stored close to the press or a heat source this could cause the release agent to thicken or polymerize and clog the tip.  If it's particles in the release (generally caused by reusing/not cleaning containers) a simple screen or inline filter could help.

I hope this helps.

tom

Tom,
When I said "is a little bit small for what I'd like to" I didn't mean the particle (because I agree with you the smaller the better) size but the angle of the spray coming out of the atomizer. In other words the angle and the volume of the spray or the mist coming out of the atomizer that we are currently using is very narrow so it can miss spots that are kind of hidden to the direction of the spray (sometimes because of the way that the mold is you might not be able to go let say around a small pins on the core of the mold).
That's why I'm looking for a higher volume of the spray (with a wider angle con) so it will still get to those "hidden" spots even though I'm not spraying at the perfect angle with them.
Regarding the tip of the spray getting clogged up, you were right when you said that one of the factors that it happens is because of staying around hot places for a long time so the mold release cures and also the mold release has to be filtered.
Tom, thank you for your help
Regards,
Genti
