RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

(OP)
It seems that every time I start the software an error message comes up. [Error 1706: No valid source could be found for product RsLogix 500 ......]

Also Every time every time RSLinx boots up. RSLogix 500 asks for to insert the CD to install some features. I followed the instructions but this problem is consistant.

Does anyone have Ideas on how to solve these issues?

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

Have you installed the activation file?  It probably came on a 3-1/2 floppy unless you happened to get the new factory talk activation but I don't think that is an option yet on RsLogix 500

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

The latest version of Logix over here has activation via the internet. No more holding a backup copy of the activation floppy...

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

Looks like you are correct for this side of the pond (USA) also Scotty.  As of CPR7 RsLogix 500 used the Factory Talk activations.

Those who already have the software can use their existing activation until CPR10, the best I understand it

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

Try opening ms excel.
type a few characters in a cell and flie save.
close excel and try opening rslogix again

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

Or
right click on my computer
go to properties
then to the advanced tab
then to environment variables
add a system variable
the name will be CHECKDRIVES
and value will be C

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

(OP)
My hard drive letter is H:\

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

Then value will = H

H is not a network drive is it?

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

(OP)
No H is not a network drive

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

After adding the CHECKDRIVES statement the pc must be re-booted.

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

(OP)
ok doing this now

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

(OP)
Nop that did not solve the problem.

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

Did you try opening the excel and save?

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

What OS do you have there? XP, 2000?

RE: RSLogix 500 Always asking for CD when starting Linx

Lastly, right click on my documents folder and make sure the target is h: if it is not then correct it.
If this does not fix the issue the go to microsoft website and download the microsoft clean-up utility.  run it only on rs500. reboot. re-install
