Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

(OP)
Hello,

Does anyone has any experience importing Unigraphics NX3 assembly files to SolidWorks? When we open this kind of file, we just see the message: "No Parasolid data".

Any ideas?

Regards.

RE: Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

SW can't import NX3 files yet.

Quote (SW Help Files):

You can import parts and assemblies from Unigraphics II version 10 and higher, including import of Unigraphics NX 2 files.

cheers

Thank you CorBlimeyLimey,

However, SolidWorks can easily import PARTS from NX3. Also, the same behavior is noted when importing assemblies from NX2.

Does anyone have tried to import Unigraphics assemblies to SolidWorks?

Regards.

RE: Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

I've imported a few native UG files.  I always get better results from parasolid.  See if the sender can send you a parasolid.

The problem is that when I try to import a Parasolid file, the name of the components are lost. For example, If the name of the main assembly is "ASSY_1", then the names of the parts are "ASSY_1-1", "ASSY_1-2, "ASSY_1-3numbers should be maintained.

RE: Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

Parasolid is the only way I know of, unless you find a 3rd party program.

RE: Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

Maybe try to export from UG using differnt versions of Parasolid, and see if one of them just happens to work.

RE: Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

Perhaps there's an option that can be changed in UG.  UG has dozens of options for export, including how components are handled.  Most UG users are only dimly aware of these.

RE: Unigraphics Assemblies to SolidWorks

Thats' because an Assy in UG (much like swx) contains no actual solid data, only pointers to the part files so there's nothing there to read. You need to export the UG Assy to parasolid format. Or promote all the parts to the assembly level in UG and resave the file.
