Selecting Section Letters

Selecting Section Letters

Selecting Section Letters

(OP)
Anyone know a sure-fire way to select the letter of a section definition.  Specifically to select the letter when the section resides completely within a view (i.e. keeps wanting to select the view when I try to select the section letter).  I think I've tried all of my filters with no luck.  I assume/hope there is something very simple of which I haven't heard or thought.

Thanks

RE: Selecting Section Letters

If you are just wanting to change the letter, select the actual section view and the section manager will appear. You should be able to change it from there.

If you want to move the letter; does the the section line not highlight when you mouse over it? The cursor should change to a mini section line, and you should be able to click on the letter and drag it. (Deselect all filters.)

cheers

RE: Selecting Section Letters

I found that if you left click and hold on the bottom left "theoretical" corner of the letter you can move it where ever you what.  Once you have done that you can drag your cursor over the end of the view arrow and it will "snap" to it.

Yeah, trying to move.  I can select the the section line ok, but only on a lucky once-in-a-blue-moon is it selecting the letter instead of view for this case (ive never had so much trouble before).  I dont get the cursor section line icon popup but I do get the alert text box popup next to the cursor saying I am over the sectioning entity.  Is there an option to set to get the section line icon to show up in this case?  I know what you are talking about with that little icon, but it's just not showing up right now.  I can get the section line and letters to highlight at once, but as soon as I try to select near the letter, it deselects section and selects view.  Like I mentioned, I got a couple of lucky picks and had it move, but I was just curious if there was a more sure-fire way.  I've tried reopening dwg, reinserting section, select other, checking if any selection locks available, but nothing eliminates the "luck of the draw" factor.

ah CADShark, find that in the SW help huh, lol? i wasnt able to get it exactly like you said but close.  I can do like you say when section line crossed outside of view box, but not like it is  now with section being entirely inside of view box.  but what worked for me and seems sure-fire is to (i'll call the right handers' left-click the "select" and right-click the "menu" - sorry, I have been using lefty and switched buttons, so dont want to confuse anyone) anyway, when I "select"-pick and hold somewhere within the letter's envelope and drag window across letter, staying within letters envelope, and then 'menu'-pick the arrow and then go back and "select"-pick the letter I can pick it.  If that is what you meant, sorry for not understanding.

Thanks a lot

actually, scratch some of that, after the initial window, just "menu" pick right then and there over the letter and then "select" pick and I can pick it

RE: Selecting Section Letters

Try locking the view focus before selecting the letter. If the focus is already locked it should not try to override the section selection.

cheers

I like that idea, but not working, still selects the view (I really liked that idea too) but the other thing like what CADShark suggested seems pretty good and consistent, just have to make sure to leave enough room so you can select the letter without picking the context menu.
