wireless water pump controls?
wireless water pump controls?
(OP)
Definitely the new guy here. Have a water reservoir with pumphouse close to 1/2 mile away, (pretty much line of sight). Right now has a 12 pair direct buried cable communication line for controls. Has been suggested to move to a wireless system, because buried cable has seen better days. How reliable are these systems. Are they user friendly etc. Cost is certainly a consideration, this is for a small municipality.

I don't know what the 12 pair cable is used for, but if you can use one analog and two digital in one direction, say from the water reservoir to the pumphouse, Phoenix Controls makes a nice Spread Spectrum Transmitter/Receiver pair for $1000, very reliable if line-of-sight. If you need more, there are some very reliable units at about $2000 each end that can handle lots of information. All are 900 MHZ Spread Spectrum. I use Yagi antennas at each end, even if not required, in order to control emissions.

I have used the Phoenix device maybe 5 times over about 6-years and have never had a failure. Ametek sells the same thing;

shows some selections.
This is the specific device;
