nitro tank design

(OP)
what kind of insulation is needed/required for a nitro tank??

RE: nitro tank design

nitro?  liqid nitrogen, nitrous oxide, nitro glycerine, nitromethane?

RE: nitro tank design

(OP)
that would be liq'd nitrogen.

RE: nitro tank design

aka:

Using your vernacular English, your answer would be "Vacuo".

RE: nitro tank design

(OP)
what's "vacuo?" as in vacuum??

RE: nitro tank design

As in a Dewar flask. Don't forget the mirrored interior.

RE: nitro tank design

What is the size of the tank that you are proposing?
What is the intended use of the tank?

There are several manufacturers of all types of Cryo storage vessels. Here is one of several.

it has a diameter of 1.8m and a height of 7.1m vertical tank. it serves as a holding tank for nitrogen (gas).
does it need any insulation if it is installed outdoors??

RE: nitro tank design

aka:

First your said you needed insulation for a "for a nitro tank".

Then you came back and defined the above as a "liq'd nitrogen" tank.  That is a Crogenic application around -350 oF and calling for special insulation under partial vacuum.

Now, you return once again to change the rules of the game by saying that you are dealing with "a holding tank for nitrogen (gas)".  Can you please decide just exactly what it is you are trying to do, the capacity, temperatures, pressures, location, and a detailed explanation of the process?  Otherwise, you've started a confusion rather than a help session.  Gaseous nitrogen is not normally stored at cryogenic temperatures.  Liquid nitrogen is.  It makes a BIG difference.

RE: nitro tank design

(OP)
im sorry about that. . . i had to clear it up with my superior. it's for nitrogen gas.

RE: nitro tank design

Why doesn't your superior just get online next time or just hire a consultant at this point.

RE: nitro tank design

After making sure the tank is constructed correctly of the proper materials the insulation to use would be "FoamGlas".
This would be the material to use as the N may be cool enough to cause the vessel to sweat.

RE: nitro tank design

i still don't think we know what is needed versus what is wanted.

my money is on this is for a tank of liquid nitrogen because the user/site needs nitrogen gas.

RE: nitro tank design

As stated by Montemayor, this person either doesn't know what he wants or he is playing some kind of guessing game.....

I suggest that the eng-tips site administrator delete this thread as a waste of time...
