Overwriting the weight for a model
Overwriting the weight for a model
(OP)
Dear Members,
I have few imported geometry models(Big Assemblies converted to models),I got from my vendor, which I use in my assemblies. In order to have nearest estimate of weight of my Overall Assembly,I m giving material details for all parts. I can easily calculate weights my own enginering control parts. But how to give weight to imported parts??
Is there any way to overwrite weight value for those parts so that model always takes that fixed value of weight(Which I can easily get from my Vendor)???
Or suggest me any other more practical method.
Your help is very much appreciatted.

That would be a good suggestion to add a certain material to a surface.

Finding weight of the that imported part is not a problem. I can ask vendor for that or I can directly weight it and findout. Vendor cannot give SW Assembly because it is their propriety info.I need not bother to assign material to model, because it is Purchased item.
All I want is how to fix that model to some weight known to me? - May be even thru back door.I greatly appreciate ur response.

Go to Tools > Mass Properties then Tick the third checkbox "Assigned mass properties" and manually enter the total weight of the assembly (and optionally the co-ordinates of the center of gravity)

A star for you. I had no idea that the feature you suggested had been added to SolidWorks.
I was going to suggest using mass properties to find the volume and then changing the density such that the mass would work out correctly using the formula density= (mass/volume).
But your way is even better.

Many thanks for you. you really helped me a lot. I replied on that day itself, but donno, that hasn't come up. Anyways.......Many many thanks.
Shaggy,
Many thanks for you as well. That is the only idea in my mind at that time, unless Trevor came up wi that excellent tip.
