Catia V4 to V5 batch - Parts instead of Assemblies?

Catia V4 to V5 batch - Parts instead of Assemblies?

Is there an option to convert V4 migration data as CATPart assemblies, as opposed to CATProducts with a billion chaotic little pieces?

Thank you.

I'm definately the wrong one to be answering this but if you can't find an answer to your original question, I thought there was a "CATProduct to CATPart" command that would flatten a product.

If you can find that at least it would be a temporary workaround.

I occasionally do it that way - but I don't like the extra step, and the CATProduct conversions are absolutely horrible.  They sometimes cause problems when attempting to use the "CATPart from CATProduct" function.

Thank you for your input, nonetheless...

Hi,

In my opinion, if you don't need all those parts coming from a v4 to v5 migration of an assembly, its better to simply drag the v4 model from Windows Explorer to v5 window, go to Master, pick what solid you want, copy in clipbord, then in a new Part Design window Paste Special.

Hope I understood well what you need.

The limited history comes across in the batch, though.  And, unfortunately, (for whatever reason) the batch mode tends to produce better results.  Not to mention that doing the manual way is very tedious.  It is no good for large batches.

You understood alright, though.

There are many options for migrating V4 data to V5, especially in R16.  Look in your Options Panel for the DataLifeCycle Utility.  You can migrate that V4 Model into a CATProduct by Solid, By Set, by Layer, By Ditto, or by any combination of the above.  You can do them As Result or As Spec, and you can chose this per method (ie Elements converted by Solid are converted As Spec while elements converted by Set are converted As Result).  If you select By Set, and you only have one set, you will get a single CATPart with multiple Part Bodies in it.

Also, you can copy/paste special/CATIA_SPEC interactively to migrate V4 solids to V5 one at a time.
