Managed Libraries
Managed Libraries
(OP)
Looked for tips or info on this, but didn't see any. The SE 'help' topics aren't great for basic overviews of something like this.
My questions are:-
1. Breifly what exactly is a managed library, and can I use this capability without buying the extra insight connect add-on.
2. Do most SE users work in a managed library, and if so should all the drawings be in one.
3. What are the advantages of using a managed library when revision manager seems to do something similar.
4. Does a CAD office server need to be confgured to enable a managed library to be set up.
Sorry if some of these questions are plain dumb, but I have tried with limited success to figure it all out.
Thanks in advance
Andrew.

RE: Managed Libraries
Don't feel alone. Search for the "sespimpgde" help file in your Solid Edge program directory.
Setting up Insight involves the following:
1. Setting up a server running Windows Server 2003.
2. Installing Windows SQL Server 2000 or 2005
3. Installing Windows Sharepoint Services or Sharepoint Portal Server.
4. Installing Insight Server on the server.
Insight comes free with Solid Edge, the big cost are the server software and setting it all up. Unfortunately Insight is not a out-of-the-box application. It took me alot of hard work and patience to get it up and running.
Is it worth all the trouble? Yes, if you have 3 or more users, large assemblies and complex assembly structures.
For advantages check the following website:http://www
Please feel free to ask me anymore questions. I have been through the whole process.
Kind regards,
