Hole Wizard Hole on cylindrical surface

Hole Wizard Hole on cylindrical surface

I have a 3" pipe that I need to put some NPT tapped holes in and that is no problem.  On the drawing however, I can not perform a hole callout dimension abecause SW can not seem to find an edge to dimension.  "Insert model items, hole wizard locations" does not even work.

Suggestions please

RE: Hole Wizard Hole on cylindrical surface

It won't work.  You'll have to make a manual note.

handleman - Thanks for the confirmation.  Sometimes I think it is purely operator error on my part, so it is nice to have confirmation on the SW shortcoming before I go and add manual notes.

Appreciated....

RE: Hole Wizard Hole on cylindrical surface

A workaround (sort of) is to add a spotface before placing the tapped hole. A Hole Callout can then be placed on the tapped hole {smile] ... but not the spotface sad

Submit an ER to add a vote for this functionality.

cheers

Yeah, this is a limitation I run into from time to time too.  Annoying.

BodyBagger,

Is this what you are trying to do?

I did not do anything special.  All I did was select the inner most circular feature in the hole.  I used model items and made sure all dimensions and annotations were selected.  I may be missing what you are trying to do but that is all I did.  I also tried to select the feature using hole call out and that did not work.

BTW I am using 2006 sp4.1
