I am using some W12x50's and W12x58.  What is the standard lengths i can buy these in?

RE: Standard Lengths of W Shape I beams

Check with a steel supplier.  I think they come in 40' and up to 60'.  Size is usually limitted by waht can be shipped/trucked.

RE: Standard Lengths of W Shape I beams

40' and 60' lengths are fairly 'standard' in my area (Nebraska). These are the lengths likely to be sitting in the fabricator's on hand stock piles, or at steel warehouses.

Longer lengths can be specially ordered, but these take time to acquire.

RE: Standard Lengths of W Shape I beams

A fabricator once told me that if I tried to keep my lengths as close to multiples of 5'-0" and not over ended up with less waste for him.  He orders his sections in lengths like 50', 55', 60' etc, so when I used a piece that was 61'-4" long, it required him to waste 3'-8" a bunch of times.

RE: Standard Lengths of W Shape I beams

I think we can usually get 40', 50', and 60'.  And of course if you need more than one, that gives you 20', 25', and 30' lengths.  If you need large quantities, you can get mill orders in custom lengths.
