Wood girder truss Ply-to-ply connections
Wood girder truss Ply-to-ply connections
(OP)
In a multiple ply wood truss girder that is supporting other trusses along the bottom chord, can the nailing of the metal truss hanger (assuming a three inch long nail) be used to transfer the loads from the face ply down to the second ply? Most truss drawings seem to use only the nailing specified on their drawings and disregard the nailing from the hangers which is penetrating the second ply.

mean ?? Are you talking about a solid glu-lam beam???
Are you talking about a 3 inch nail that will <supposedly> prevent the beam from pulling away from the face of the wall??

When you say "truss to truss connection" do you mean only the ply to ply connection of the girder. My understanding is that the truss manufacturer is responsible for all truss to truss connections, including the connection for a truss hanging into a girder. Thanks.
RE: Wood girder truss Ply-to-ply connections
We are responsible for both ply to ply and truss to truss. We do specify the hanger required for the connection, but have no control over who installs it and how. Therefore we do not account for the hanger nails to help transfer the loads on face mount trusses.
