60 years old steel building in aggresive environment

60 years old steel building in aggresive environment

I am a structural engineer working in Sri Lanka. Currently, I'm working on a refurbishment project and need to write some specifications. This building is a steel building which is about 50 years old.

This is a soap manufacturing plant and the environment is highly corrosive. Some steel sections are badly damaged and need replacements.

What is the best method to protect structural steel sections from corrosion? I need to apply this for whole building. Appreciate links to suitable literature.

Regards
KC

RE: 60 years old steel building in aggresive environment

First thing you need to do is determine the chemicals that are causing the corrosion. This will dictate the type of protection that is appropriate.
