Diesel fuel flow sensor

Diesel fuel flow sensor

I am trying to measure fuel consumed by a Bobcat mini excavator with 60 hp Kubota diesel.  I just need to have an accurate total of gallons used.  I'm assuming I will have to put a flow meter on the fuel line as well as on the return line.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

RE: Diesel fuel flow sensor

Double meters would double the margin of error. Is there a reason you can't install a locking gas cap and simply measure the amount of fuel placed in the tank?

I want to have a fairly fast and accurate measurement of the fuel used.  Say run the machine for 5-15 minutes and measure the fuel used during that time.  So just measuring the amount of fuel placed in the tank won't work.

RE: Diesel fuel flow sensor

Could you  mount the tank inline with a force sensor to measure the weight of the tank before and after your 5-15 minute runs?

RE: Diesel fuel flow sensor

You could just replace the tank with a graduated cylinder, and run from that.
