attaching to SS sheet metal

attaching to SS sheet metal

attaching to SS sheet metal

(OP)
What would be the best way of attaching something to a stainless steel sheet, so it does not separate?  I am afaid that the object will shear off at the points where it is fastened with screws.  BTW, there is plywood behind the sheet metal, which is not a great base for the screws to anchor to.

Any suggestion of alternative fasteners?

RE: attaching to SS sheet metal

... does not separate
- under what load, i.e. force?
- in what load directin, i.e. pullout, shear, etc.
- in what environment?
- from how thick a sheet?
- of what stainless alloy?

In general, the answer is that any joint can be made to separate, somehow, so your answer is the null set, unless you constrain the problem.

More information is needed as to your application. However if this is a stainless steel splash-back or wall cover, you could stud weld threaded pins to the stainless.

RE: attaching to SS sheet metal

I guess he's trying to attach an unspecified object to a stainless face over a plywood backer, and he's worried that the attaching screws will shear when some unknown force is applied to the unspecified object.  Then he talks about the plywood not being a good receiver for the screws, implying that there is some tension in addition to the shear.

... maybe a toilet paper holder?
