Sectioning when the section plane isn't perpendicular to the page

I'm using pro/e 2001

I was wondering if I could show a 3d model sectioned without the section being perpendicular to the page?

RE: Sectioning when the section plane isn't perpendicular to the page

Fawkes,

you mean an isometric view with a section (3d section)?

Absolutely, yes

RE: Sectioning when the section plane isn't perpendicular to the page

Fawkes,

In Proe2001 the procedure is very simple. Take your model and hit the default view icon. If you are satisffied with this view, then go to XSECTION->CREATE->OFFSET (keep both sides and single)->DONE->give a name to you section. Then sketch the section as opened feature. Something like this:

     +-----------------
     |
     |
     |
     |
     |
     |

In this example, a quater of the part will be removed. Sketch the lines big enough to cover all the part.

This is pretty much all. The orientation I told you at the begining is just to be sure when you'll position the part in drawing (as default for example) the section will not be in the opposite side.

Now in drawing, put the default isometric view and chooseVIEW->ADD VIEW->GENERAL->SECTION->DONE->FULL->TOTAL XSEC->DONE->click on the screen to position the view->choose default view->then choose the section name->hit the middle button to finish.

That's all.

In Wildfire should be similar, but less ckicks.

Good luck! smile

Star for you Hora, great tip thanks.

I need some more help if you know how...

I was looking at using the image to create a sectioned-solid looking image. I can't show solid colours for the drawing only wireframe and hatch and I tried to create a render using the visibility-clip function but the clipping disappears when I show the render.

Any ideas how I get an image of a sectioned, coloured solid model?

RE: Sectioning when the section plane isn't perpendicular to the page

In ProE2001, the only way you can do it is using an "assembly cut". It's a very powerful command and you can select the parts to be cut and the level you'll see the cut.

I don't know if Wildfire has a more powerful 3D cut sectioning.

Give it a try.

-Hora. Thx. for the nice words. smile

2 Starts now.

Thanks a lot, you've saved me days of searching around.

Now I'm going to have fun with the rendering...
