lattice type beam loads
lattice type beam loads
(OP)
evening all,
just wondering how do i go about working out the vertical load on a lattice type beam with ends facing vertically i.e
\/
..
/\
with the dots being the hinge pins.
i cant figure out how to work out the load on each beam section and each pin joint at its maximum load and at various points for any given angle
thanks fors the help

RE: lattice type beam loads
imagine a lattice beam but instead of attaching the ends of the cross pieces to the beams frame you attach them to eachother by means of bearings so when you close the bottom to members together the beam extends kind of like a grabbing arm-i think they use them on some reach machinery. 1st picture wasnt really right, this type of action but the load calculated with the bottom joints fixed at a point and the others free to move

RE: lattice type beam loads
From the picture you posted its a scissor type of mechanism.
You need to know the vertical force at the one end and then resolve the forces in each member for the angle they are set in.
Basically each link is just a two force member and the load
is transferred via the linkage to the pins
