Highpot procedure for 15 KV cable

Highpot procedure for 15 KV cable

(OP)
Hello all,

I am looking for a Highpot procedure for 15 KV AC cable, I know the IEEE 400-1991, ICEA S-93-639, but I have not access to these standards, could somebody send to me the basic procedures or a form sheet.

I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

RE: Highpot procedure for 15 KV cable

Most current IEEE recommendation is to NOT high-pot at all, I believe.

Start here: thread238-177464: Does Partial Discharge Test Make Hi-Pot Unneccesary? for more than you probably want to know.

Then search this forum for posts by BenLanz who is on the IEEE committee.

My advice is to get recommendation from cable manufacturer and follow that.

Check with Okonite Cable. They have information on the procedure.

RE: Highpot procedure for 15 KV cable

There is alot more to it than that quadtech article, your best test method depends on the type and age of the cable, but DC hipot should not be done on any service aged (> 5 years) cable.

Hi pot test on Transformers and cables are acheiving the same result ?

I was told by a manufacturer that Hi pot test in transformer is for detecting clearances with in transformer enclosure and windings.

And a Impulse test checks the insulation breakdown.

Does this thing applied to cables also ?

Thanks
