Help with design tables

(OP)
I keep having this problem, whenever I make changes to an external design table and I open the respective part in solidworks, the part dimensions change, but whenever I try to close the file, it asks to update the excel file, but it has to save it on a new file (as it says it cannot save over the existing file that was used to import the data). Any help here?

Thanks!

RE: Help with design tables

Are the permissions on the external Excel file set to "Read Only"?

cheers

yes, i have checked that, it has full write access. The weird thing is when it automatically generates a new file to save "same file name + _new.xls", the next time, I can save to that file again when the error return (i.e. it will write over the previous file), but it still will not save over the original one.
