I have a rupture in 98% sulfuric acid line (carbon steel) and have to prepare it for repair and put it in service again.

Which are the recommended procedures for cleaning the line before giving it to maintenance and the ones before introducing the product to avoid presence of moisture, etc.

Purging with dry nitrogen will do the job. This is a common procedure in H2SO4 alkylation plants in refinery.

Emmanuel is right on.  To clear it use dry N2 and drain.  There will be residual acid so proper PPE is necessary.  Then when ready to put back in service sweep it with N2 to make sure moisture is removed.

I am not used to abreviations or acronysms. Could you please tell me what do you mean when referring to PPE ?

Than you very much for your help.

personal protective equipment
Should be gloves, goggles, slicker suit, face shield, boots and whatever else your site requires.  At least for the initial line break
