I assume that bars of A36 in thicker sections have lesser mechanicals than the small sections.

That said, does anyone have yield and tensile (room temp) for HR flats in cross sections of 1" x 6" and 1" x 8"?

Thanks!

RE: ASTM A36 information

ostand;
Why don't you use the specified minimum UTS and YS requirements in ASTM A 36? The hot rolled cross sections you mentioned above would meet the minimum specified. Do you have access to this document?

metengr,

I don't have access to the document. The steel supply houses have a general note indicating that the specs they publish, are for the lighter sections. So I thought that the entire document would have reduced values for thicker sections.

RE: ASTM A36 information

Paul;
No. Use the following

UTS min  58 Ksi
YS min  36 Ksi

If the thickness of the plate is over 8", use 32 Ksi as your min yield strength.

The adjustments for thicker sections has to so with weight per linear foot and assuring minimum ductility versus strength (e.g., instead of 23% min elongation in a 2" gage, the value drops to 19%, if the weight per square foot exceeds 426).
