Coating vs. Lining w.r.t. Pump Columns

Coating vs. Lining w.r.t. Pump Columns

Coating vs. Lining w.r.t. Pump Columns

(OP)
I'm hoping to settle a dispute over the definition of the word "coating" and "lining" as they relate to pump columns.

An addendum was issued simply stating the pump columns had to be epoxy 'coated'. No further clarifications were requested.

There was no mention of whether it was interior only, exterior only, or both.

One party says "coating" means outside only and that "lining" means inside only. Both would have to be used where the intent was to have all surfaces epoxied.

The other party says "coating", without any specific exclusions, means "inside and out".

Questions:

1. Is it a good practise to have a discountinous epoxy coating?

2. Is there a standard that defines the appropriate terminology?

3. What are the industry standard terms to distinguish between interior and exterior pipe surfaces?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.
