Pump Packing Storage

(OP)
I am in the process reorganizing our warehouse. When i do this i wanted to develop a procedure for pump packing  storage. I need to talk with someone to ensure me that our  storage procedures are correct

The pump manufacturer should be able to give you long term storage procedures, I would suggest you contact them for input.

RE: Pump Packing Storage

Do you mean packing a pump away for storage or do you mean storing pump gland packing material?

RE: Pump Packing Storage

Where do you use (gland) packing in this day and age in such large quantities that you need to keep a warehouse full of it?
Most packing should come ready protected for long term storage but as already suggested, the supplier will give you full instructions to protect and store their particular product.

RE: Pump Packing Storage

If you mean Packings or O-rings.  I would get a copy of MIL-HDBK-695 - Rubber Products, Shelf Storage Life.  It really comes down to what material are the packings made from because some materials need age & heat control during storage.

Here is a link to download the MIL HDBK

RE: Pump Packing Storage

It has been mentioned already, speak to pump manufcturers as if you dont follow this to the book, you could have an impact on any potential warranty claims.

Its important to mention to the manufacturer that long term storage will be requires as they can add surface protector to the pump before despatch, storage is simple, main point is to rotate the shaft c.6 times every few weeks.

RE: Pump Packing Storage

Hello again "ddurdle". Can you answer some of the questions asked of you please, so that we can help you better?
It is no use posting a question and then ignoring it! Makes us feel we're wasting our time here!

RE: Pump Packing Storage

Thanks Cheddercaveman for beingf so direct asking for a reply - how many time do we respond with out any answer from the OP - it really make you feel you are wasting your time  with some questions.

RE: Pump Packing Storage

The OP hasn't checked back since June 24, so it's probable he got the answers he needed.

For completeness sake, I'm posting the single reply to the identical post on another forum.  This post was made by mbensema on June 24:

You can find a technical publicaton on the FAG website that has a section covering handling and storage of bearings. www.fag.com  Search for WL-80-100/3 "Mounting and Dismounting of Rolling Bearings"  If that is not enough information, call your regional manager and ask to have a service engineer come out to give you some guidance
