What is an SUG-1 Building

What is an SUG-1 Building

What is an SUG-1 Building

(OP)
Hi all,

In ASCE 7-02 page 140 Table 9.5.2.5.1 Permitted Analytical Procedures the term SUG-1 buildings is used four times.  I cannaot find a definition of SUG-1 anywhere.  I have the IBC, ASCE 7-02, IRC and a other stuff on CD but a word search only comes up with this table.

If anyone knows I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks

RE: What is an SUG-1 Building

It stands for Seismic Use Group I - see the Table in Chapter 1 for occupancy categories.  Seismic use group categories are based on these (SUG I = Occupancy Category I, II, SUG II = Occupancy Category III, and SUG III = Occupancy Category IV).   There is a table somwhere in the beginning of the seismic chapter that maps the occupancy category to the seismic use group as I did in the previous sentence but I am doing this from memory and do not have it in front of me.

They finally came to their senses in ASCE 7-05 and elminated the seismic use group and just use occupancy categories.
