Chemical engineering cost index

Chemical engineering cost index

Chemical engineering cost index

Guys, I've a compressor repair cost that I'd like to back-date from the present day to end-2005.

Could anyone suggest a suitable cost index and provide any data that could help?

Any help greatly appreciated

RE: Chemical engineering cost index

You want to back-date 18 months. The latest CECPI Pumps and Compressors CE Index that I have is Dec 2006 at 803.8 . Going back 18 months to July 2005 the CE Index was 752.1 . This would be worth a try if you are in the US or Canada.

RE: Chemical engineering cost index

How appropriate is it to use an equopment cost index for escalation of a repair cost?

If the repair was mostly labour, not materials, then you may want to use the labour sub-index.

Thanks very much guys,

The repair actually comprises the internal re-coating of a compressor with a Ni-P protective coating (original danaged by corrosion).  The repair involves dipping the compressor into a bath wherein the relevant surfaces get plated (known as electroless plating).

The supplier is Japanese, the customer Algerian.

I have a global quotation for the work, materials and labour are not broken down.  The re-coating was part of the original manufacture so I guess a materials index would be more appropriate.

Any thoughts?

Following on from the above I think an equipment cost index is appropriate and wondered if anybody had the most recent Nelson Farrar indices and also NF indices for end-2005.

Best regards

RE: Chemical engineering cost index

My most recent numbers are from September 2005:

Nelson-Farrar Inflation Index  1941.7
  Materials component  1179.1
  Labor component  2450.1
  Miscellaneous equipment  1067.3
  Pumps, compressors, etc.  1701.0
  Electrical machinery  513.7
  Internal-comb. engines  931.0
  Instruments  1111.7
  Heat exchangers  1079.2
