Seeking Opinions on GE Training CD on Prot. Relaying.

Seeking Opinions on GE Training CD on Prot. Relaying.

(OP)
Has anyone used the Learning CD from the GE Multilin web site?  The CD is titled FUNDAMENTALS OF MODERN PROTECTIVE RELAYS.  There is a demo on the web site.

Is there someone has used it and has an opinion?  Did you get it for a less than $1200 a copy?

Thank you.

RE: Seeking Opinions on GE Training CD on Prot. Relaying.

AJ2002,

I used the disk a while ago, so here is my comments from memory. The training CD is good if you are new to protective relaying and need to learn quickly. However, I believe getting books such as Blackburns' "Protective Relaying - Principles & Applications" is jsut as good as the CD and MUCH cheaper.

Hi AJ2002 .
Please see FAQ238-1287: What are good references for a Power Engineer?

I also recommend good book:
Protection Techniques in Electrical Energy Systems.
Helmut Ungrad
Wilibald Winkler
Andrezej Wiszniewski.

Marcel Dekker,Inc NY Bazel

slavag,

Thanks for remembering the FAQ about references. I thought about them, but couldn't remember where they were.

RE: Seeking Opinions on GE Training CD on Prot. Relaying.

"The art and science of protective relaying" is a pretty good reference for older relay types, I think it is a free download from GE.
