Seal Material for 2,500 psi

Seal Material for 2,500 psi

(OP)
We are looking at designing a pipeline clamp to hold 2,500psi. An area of the 16" pipeline is question and we have been approached to design and manufacture a twin half shell clamp that can be placed around the pipeline, clamped & squeezed together to contain the pressure.

We are having problems determining a suitable seal material, as most commonly available materials have a tensile strength lower than the pipeline pressure.

Assuming a test pressure of around 2,700 psi, what is a suitable material that can withstand this pressure, while offering a degree of compressibility to allow the clamp to accomodate any irregularity / ovality in the pipe?

RE: Seal Material for 2,500 psi

I would submit your request to o-ring manufacturer's.
