Help Renaming Parts

Help Renaming Parts

(OP)
Hello, I have the need to update the names of several files in my vault (server) and on my hard drive. What is the best/easiest method of doing this without losing functionality or references to assemblies?
Thanks

RE: Help Renaming Parts

I can't seem to find the links you're referring to. The first is broken, you then followed with another that worked, but I can't find the Batch rename in SolidWorks link

I do use PDMWorks with SW and I was just wondering if I can just right-click on each part in the file explorer tab of SW and rename from there. Would there be any problems with that? Would all of the references remain in tact?

RE: Help Renaming Parts

You can rename files in SWexplorer but you have to own all the files including all “referenced” and “were used” files

RE: Help Renaming Parts

If you are using PDMWorks, it is best to rename the files within the vault.  Make sure that all other files which reference the documents to be renamed are checked into the vault before doing so.  I beleive that the VaultAdmin tool has to be used to give users permission to rename documents, and you will need ownership of all affected documents to make the change.
