ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

(OP)
IBC 06 specifies several ACI reference standards, however, ACI 350 is not one of them.  Since there was a new edition of ACI 350 released at the beginning of this year I was wondering if I need to be using this edition or the older ACI 350-01 since that is what was in effect when the IBC 06 code was written and adopted?  What do you think?

I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

RE: ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

Have you looked in the concrete chapter of the IBC code?  There's also a reference standard section in IBC 06 that shows exactly what release is attributed to each material specification.

Thank you for the reply.  Yes I have checked this section.  This is the section I was referring to that does not mention the ACI 350 but does specify ACI 318-05.  I also see no refernces to ACI 350 in the concrete chapter.

RE: ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

Environmental engineering concrete structures are not included in the scope of the International Building Code. See IBC Section 101.2

Even the title of IBC would suggest ACI 350 is not a referenced standard.

If you check IBC Chapter 35, it lists four ACI referenced standards and ACI 350 is not one of them. However, the MSJC Code and Specs (ACI 530) is included. Perhaps, this is what you had in mind.

RE: ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

(OP)
Yes Chapter 35 is what I was referring to.  Since ACI 350 is not mentioned and as you said is not part of the IBC Code does that mean that the edition of ACI 350 required is something that would need to be specidfied by the engineer of record?

Thanks

P.S. I do mean ACI 350 and not 530.

RE: ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

The type of structures designed using ACI 350 do not typically come under building department code enforcement. These are typically of a public works nature. So I'd check with the public works agency/AHJ that is reponsible for code enforcement.

RE: ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

The 2006 IBC references ACI 318-05.  ACI 318 references ACI-350 in Chapter 1.  I don't have ACI-318-05, but in ACI-318-02, Section R1.1.4, commentary, refers to ACI-350.

RE: ACI 350-06 Required by IBC 06?

(OP)
Good point ARLORD and I notice that ACI 318-05 goes on to list it in the commentary references as ACI 350R-89.  So I guess this answers my question.  At this point it looks like the only time ACI 350-06 is required is if it would be specified by a public works agency as henri2 pointed out.
