Bright Annealing Spec -- is there one out there?

Bright Annealing Spec -- is there one out there?

Bright Annealing Spec -- is there one out there?

(OP)
Does anyone know of a good specification (ASTM, AMS, MIL, etc.) for bright annealing?  It is specifically for Iron Nickel alloys, but a generic spec and/or other metal would be acceptable.  Thanks!

RE: Bright Annealing Spec -- is there one out there?

I have never seen one.  It would be nice to have time/temp charts and gas quality guidelines.  We have internal requirements, but I have never seen a real specification.

RE: Bright Annealing Spec -- is there one out there?

Most likely the reason there is no general standard/specification is because bright annealing is a specific fabrication step for enhancing the surface appearance of stainless steel or other metals. Bright annealing is an "option" for an end-user as part of a general heat treatment requirement for annealing.

There are several sources to extract information so that you review a fabricator's bright anneal specification (if they even offer it), and ask intelligent questions. For example, see below for general information on bright annealing
