Unable to redefine feature error

Unable to redefine feature error

Unable to redefine feature error

(OP)
Running NX4.0.3.3
I'm attempting to edit a part I modified yesterday.  The part saved and closed normally yesterday.  This is not an assembly it is a single part although most of it was created in the context of an assembly.  I can open and view the part and I am in modeling.  If I try to edit any sketch, radius or any feature I get an error message "Unable to redefine feature due to the following: Internal error: Non-specific OM error."  I also have several backups of this file and I cannot work on any of the backups either ... any ideas???  I also opened several other files I worked on yesterday and they work normally so the problem appears to be isolated to this file.

Thanks!

t.

RE: Unable to redefine feature error

Have you tried rebooting your computer? It solves about 90% of the internal errors I run across.

Yup - I shut down and let the PC sit for a few minutes.  On restart I opened one of the old backup files.  Same deal - I cannot edit anything.  I can add new features to the model then close and save as I normally would. When I re-open I cannot even change the feature I added a minute ago. Very weird.

RE: Unable to redefine feature error

You've got a corrupt model.  How that happened, it's hard to say.  Your only course of action is to contact UGS GTAC and send them the file as there are tools and procedures which they can use that may 'fix' the problem and make the part usable once more.

Thanks John. That's what I figured.  What I can't understand is how it seems to have affected even the older backup copies from a month ago.  At each project milestone I would copy the .prt file into a folder named for the date of the backup.  I have worked with the backup copies before but now none of them work.  All other files seem to be fine.

RE: Unable to redefine feature error

Note that corruption can result from moving a file over a network where the parity checking fails to catch problems caused by invalid file transfer protocals.  It has nothing to do with NX.  Hopefully when GTAC inspects the part they may be able to pinpoint exact where the problem originated.

RE: Unable to redefine feature error

Don't expect anything back from UGS on your corrupt model.

We sent something in at the beginning of the year.  I checked the status of the IR periodically, but just said screw it after months of checking.

We were in a crunch time with that part file, but it's passed.

It was IR then switched to PR.  Says it is closed

RE: Unable to redefine feature error

I've asked for an update from the person who this PR has bee asssgined to.  As soon as I hear anything, I'll post it here in this thread.
