Solubility of SO2 in concentrated H2SO4

Solubility of SO2 in concentrated H2SO4

Solubility of SO2 in concentrated H2SO4

(OP)
Hi,

I need data (x-y graph) for solubility of SO2 in concentrated sulphuric acid (approx. 98%) at temperature approx. 80 deg. C.
Can anyone send me this data or give a link/reference?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Paul

RE: Solubility of SO2 in concentrated H2SO4

To my knowledge SO2 is pretty insoluble in really conc. sulphuric acid. I don't know if youre trying to increase concentration above 98% - if thats the case you would usually oxidise the SO2 to SO3 over a catalyst. This is then absorbed by 98% acid in a suitable tower to produce  oleum which then forms H2SO4 when water is added.
