Performance Question - WHY IS THIS

Performance Question - WHY IS THIS

Performance Question - WHY IS THIS

(OP)
Hello,
I have a performance question.  I am using dual monitors and starting the other day I like to keep the task manager performance graphs running on the right monitor so I can see what is happening at all times.  If I am moving the mouse while the arrow is hovering on the the right screen the CPU usage ranges between 4 & 7 percent. If I move the mouse around while the arrow is hovering on the left screen with SW running the CPU usage jumps to 100 percent and stays there until I stop moving the mouse.  Why would the CPU usage be different based on which screen I am hovering on???  These are my specs:

SW2007 sp3.1

----Processor----
3.60 gigahertz Intel Xeon
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache

----Main Circuit Board----
Board: Dell Inc. 0XC837
Serial Number: ..CN1374064B00CY.
Bus Clock: 800 megahertz
BIOS: Dell Inc. A07 03/15/2006

----Memory Modules----
3072 Megabytes Installed Memory

Slot 'DIMM_1' has 1024 MB
Slot 'DIMM_2' has 1024 MB (serial number 01177923)
Slot 'DIMM_3' has 512 MB (serial number 01171212)
Slot 'DIMM_4' has 512 MB (serial number 04074816)
Slot 'DIMM_5' is Empty
Slot 'DIMM_6' is Empty

----Display----
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450/4000 SDI [Display adapter]
Default Monitor (2x)
ViewSonic VA902b [Monitor] (19.1"vis, s/n PSW055071658, December 2005)
ViewSonic VA902b [Monitor] (19.1"vis, s/n PSW052874120, July 2005)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

RE: Performance Question - WHY IS THIS

Sorry, I forgot to include some information that may be helpful:

Virtual memory
--Initial Size (MB) 4000
--Maximum Size (MB) 4050

Under the "Performance Options" under Control Panel, System Properties, Advanced------ The "Visual Effects" is set to "Adjust for best performnce"

Note:  I tried the same exersize of moving the mouse around on another SW workstation here and his only goes to 30 percent when hovering over the SW screen.

RE: Performance Question - WHY IS THIS

and you run a fully updated XP SP2? There were several bugs related to 100% cpu usage and mouse movement/clicks in pre-SP2 XP (from memory, could be fixed before SP2). It did no harm however.

RE: Performance Question - WHY IS THIS

Can you use the task manager to see which process is using the CPU when this happens?

I think I figured it out actually.  I was hovering over my DBWorks screen with all the records on it.  I think it sees these like hyperlinks and it tries to read each one as the cursor moves over it.  I tried it again with just the desktop showing and both screens read the same 4-7 percent CPU usage.
