Reset Part Colors

How can i reset the part colors for all configurations? I am running 2006 sp3. Previous users changed colors of faces, solid bodies and features all in the same part. Thanks

RE: Reset Part Colors

  As far as I know there's know simple way to do it without a macro.  Search this site... that's where I found it.

Thanks. I looked at that yesterday but it was for an assembly and i wasn't sure if it went back to the part. But it did and does.

Another question;

I have some hardware like 1/4-20 shcs same part file, multiple configurations of various lengths. Now the requirement comes up that some are zinc and others are black oxide. Should i change the color to help with identification or should i let the part description destinquish them? Also if i change the color is it best to do the solid body or the feature tree? Thanks for any input.

RE: Reset Part Colors

Depends on who needs to identify them.  The color difference won't show up on a regular drawing.

RE: Reset Part Colors

This would be a nice enhancement request. I ran into this in the past and is a real pain. You really have to be a detective to figure out what the SW user did.

In regular drawing it does not matter, but we work of pretty pictures for customer approval and for assembly purposes, so it helps for those who find reading as a second language. We had an assmebly that a prevoius person created, in trying to make the parts more visible he changed the part colors, when the customer got the part he rejected it because it was not the same colors as the picture. So because of that if it is black make it black (owners rule).

RE: Reset Part Colors

The hierarchy goes body, feature, face for color and texture. If you go to configuration manager -> right click on part -> appearance -> appearance callout... then click on the color box you are then given the option to Remove all Colors in the Color and Optics Property manager. I'm not sure this was always the case but it definately works in 07.

I would advise coloring the part as a whole by the body and not an initial feature that is the parent of all other features. I use feature colors to highlight changes in parts such as adding a boss and turning the feature red to make the change clear. Colors are config based to so they will update across all confics or spcified oconfigs. Opening up the part and changing the color accross all configs is the same to me as having to open the part to change a display state (if there was such a thing at the part level). It is good practice to do your coloring at the part level vs assem until you really have a good feel for colors.

RE: Reset Part Colors

I just confirmed that this Remove all color was not possible in 06 appearance callouts, and appearance callouts didn't exist in 05, but if you are on 07 then you are in luck. I remember finding this a bit ago and doing one of thos finally gasps.

Thanks rfus, sounds like another reason to upgrade to 2007
