Numerous issues with SolidWorks 2007 SP3

Numerous issues with SolidWorks 2007 SP3

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I'm actually an IT guy and there's about 3 of our engineers who continuously have issues with SW and I'm at a loss of what the issues could be.  We have done a lot of research, called tech support, followed the Tools, Options, and Settings guide and have had little success at finding anything that really makes a difference.

Here are the specs of the computers:
Memory: 3 GB DDR2 RAM
Video Card: Nvidia Quadro FX3500 (latest driver installed)
Processors: Two Intel Xeon 5120 Dual Core 1.83Ghz
O/S: Windows XP Pro x86 w/ SP2.1
HDD: 80GB
Dell Model #: Precision Workstation 690

Now on to the issues:
-In DWG Editor one engineer was unable to make changes to a particular drawing but had no problems with a few other drawings.
-A SW window would bleed across the screen when dragged.
-A SW drawing only printed halfway and took longer than usual to be sent to the printer.
-Receive the error: "Pure Function call error, C++ runtime error."  I read on these forums that the Toobar causes this so we disabled the Toolbar utility completely but still receive the error.
Those are the big ones at least.

It almost seems like there's not enough resources available and the computer is slowing down but when I check to see how much RAM is used they still have at least 1-2GB of RAM free on the average.  We tried the 3GB switch and that seemed to make the machine even more unstable.

Hopefully I gave enough information but if not please ask me.
Does anyone have any ideas of what could be going on?  BTW, theres are brand new machines with brand new installs of SW 2007 SP3.

RE: Numerous issues with SolidWorks 2007 SP3

Have you read through the FAQ's above? Good info there. Seems you may have had the virus protection on during the installs?

RE: Numerous issues with SolidWorks 2007 SP3

I suggest updating to SP4 before trying to solve SP3 problems. SP4 incorporated many fixes.

Also take a look through the topics in the Administration section at http://www.solidworks.com/swexpress/pages/archive.html

"-In DWG Editor one engineer was unable to make changes to a particular drawing but had no problems with a few other drawings."
Could just be a corrupt file or "bad practice" of some decription used in the model creation.

"-A SW window would bleed across the screen when dragged.
Usually caused by video card and/or driver mismatch to SW version. The latest and greatest driver from nVidia isn't necessarily the best for SW. Use the driver specified at http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/VideoCardTesting.html

"-A SW drawing only printed halfway and took longer than usual to be sent to the printer."
If the SW print preview looks OK, it's probably a printer driver issue.

"-Receive the error: "Pure Function call error, C++ runtime error.""
Have you tried running a repair with the AV disabled?

cheers
