Ductile Iron Pipe Coating in Potable Water Tank

Ductile Iron Pipe Coating in Potable Water Tank

Ductile Iron Pipe Coating in Potable Water Tank

(OP)
I am working on a project to painting a water tower. There are some ductile iron pipe within the water storage tank and we have to paint them. The question I have is what sort of coating/paint can be used for the ductile iron pipe so its safe to be submerged in potable water.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

RE: Ductile Iron Pipe Coating in Potable Water Tank

The same paint and surface prep. as is used on the inside of a steel ank will be suitable for iron or ductile iron. Usually blast to SSPC-SP-5, Sa 3, NACE 1, White and coat with a paint suitable for potable water (NSF approved in USA).

It sounds like this could be previously installed piping --if so, do you know what coating system is on pipe now?

Thanks for your answers. I only need to blast to SP10 apparently and coat it.
