Oil Limit for Deck Drainge
Oil Limit for Deck Drainge
(OP)
Hi folks, I have three questions needing some help.
1) We are designing a ofshore platform topsides involving no processing but manifold and pigging facilities. Since no produced water treatment is involved, can anyone suggests applicable Oil in Water (OIW) limit for the intermittent discharge of deck drainge water?
2) In offshore wastewater discharges, what exactly the OIW is referred to? Is it just free oil or includes emulsified too...?
3) If Methanol is present in wastewater, since it is highly soluble in water, what is common limit for the chemical and any specific regulations for soluble and toxic chemicals like this?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Oil Limit for Deck Drainge
I ask because for regulation 18 (fuel sulphur) offshore platforms seem to be exempted.
There is some logic to this but that same logic may not apply to oily water discharges.
If you are liable, then MARPOL may provide a guide.
You might also refer to MARTOB's report on bilge water for the EU.
Possibly the manufacturers of Oil in Water monitors may be able to assist or the OIW user group.
