Issue with PDMWorks 2007 Workgroup Server

Issue with PDMWorks 2007 Workgroup Server

Issue with PDMWorks 2007 Workgroup Server

(OP)
From the SWx website:

http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/CustomerBulletins.html?PID=252

A problem with the installation package associated with PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x and SP4.0 has recently been identified. The PDMWorks Workgroup 2007 SP4.0 server download has been removed from the web site until this issue has been resolved.

If PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP4.0 is being installed as an upgrade to PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x OR if PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP4.0 (or SP3.x) is uninstalled, then all non-Read-only files (not folders) residing in the root directory of the drive on which the Operating System is installed will be deleted. In some cases this could result in the deletion of required operating system files. If a computer has been affected by this problem and those operating system files have been removed, then the computer will fail to boot successfully next time it is restarted.

On a machine that has been impacted by this problem it is important to verify that the required operating system files are present before restarting the system otherwise the system will not be able to boot successfully. In order to see these operating system files you will need to adjust your Windows Explorer settings to show hidden files and also to show protected operating system files. The operating system files that if missing will prevent a reboot are BOOT.INI, NTDLR, and NTDETECT.COM. If operating system files are determined to be missing, then the operating system will need to be repaired. If a machine is in this bad state due to the PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x/SP4.0 problem, then please contact your company's IT staff and explain details of the problem. The IT expert will need to determine the most appropriate way to repair the machine with consideration for that machine's operating system, the files which are missing, and the hardware configuration.

Before uninstalling or upgrading PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x or SP4.0 make sure the Read-Only attribute is set on all files at the root level of the operating system drive (typically C:\):

1) Adjust the folder options in Windows Explorer to show hidden files and also show protected operating system files.
2) Shift+select all files (not folders) on the root of the drive where the operating system is installed (typically C)
3) Check the Read-Only option on the properties dialogue

A new version of the PDMWorks 2007 SP4.0 server, labeled SP4.01, will be posted to the downloads area of the web site containing a fix to this issue. This is targeted for release on 8th June 2007, and will resolve the problem for new installations or upgrades of existing PDMWorks server installations.
