Mass Moments of Inertia ReadOUT

Mass Moments of Inertia ReadOUT

Mass Moments of Inertia ReadOUT

(OP)
I am having trouble understanding why there are 3 values for I (inertia). For example, Ix (0.022,1.000,0.344)

Is there any good sites that fully explain the mass properities readout?

What is the value for I for the following part with in the following link?

thanks a million,

Matthew

RE: Mass Moments of Inertia ReadOUT

The three values describe a unit vector, and the P values give the magnitude.

RE: Mass Moments of Inertia ReadOUT

Imagine a line being drawn, starting from the centre of mass. The three numbers describe the x,y and z position of the other end of the line. That line represents the direction (vector) of the force (P).

Because this is a 3D part, a vector and force exist for each moment (Ix, Iy and Iz).

cheers

Here is a link on the same topic.  This tool along with section properties are very powerful tools.  I remember when we use to calculate the area moments by hand.

Heckler,
You do realize that you've directed the guy to one of his own previous threads... right?  Hehehe
