Control scheme for decanter used in recycle

Control scheme for decanter used in recycle

Control scheme for decanter used in recycle

(OP)
Dear members

I am designing a batch stillpot that removes fluorobenzene and water (azeotrope) from the still and leaves benind 2,4 difluorobenzophenone.  The idea is to put the FB and water through a condenser and into a decanter, to separate the two liquids.  The FB is recycled into the stillpot , in order to "break" the azeotrope.  Does anyone have any ideas for the control scheme to use, in order that FB is recycled into the stillpot and not water, bearing in mind that the interface will be continually changing?

Thanks for your help
Booker

RE: Control scheme for decanter used in recycle

It would take a bit more info - esp. a simple P&ID scheme - to give you a meaningful answer. I can be contacted at actgmbh@compuserve.com or hans.eder@act-control.com

RE: Control scheme for decanter used in recycle

Maybe a bit late, but have you thought about preferential removal of water by using a membrane? Ceramic membranes could do the trick here. That way you do not need to recycle the FB for breaking the azeotrope.
