NPT Nipple to ASA Flange Adapter

NPT Nipple to ASA Flange Adapter

NPT Nipple to ASA Flange Adapter

(OP)
Hi Everyone:  I'm trying to get from an inlet filter (6" Male NPT) to a roughing vacuum pump (4" ASA flange), but cannot find any vendor that supplies such a fitting.  Does anyone know where to find an adapter like this, please?  Additionally, it would be helpful to know the difference between American National Standards Institute (ANSI) flanges and ASA flanges.
Many Thanks,
CPMR

RE: NPT Nipple to ASA Flange Adapter

I think "ASA" (American Standards Association?) may have been the precursor of ANSI, so it is possible you are looking at the same thing.  You may wish to measure the flange O.D. and diameter/count of holes to confirm.  If that is the case I don't think the name "ASA" has been around for many years (but you might get better answer on the history of such organizations on the ANSI forum).  With regard to your problem, can you get a 6" threaded cap with a 4" NPT boss and tap in it to then thread a short 4" FxNPT into that (or a steel cap with such a nipple welded to same?), or do you have room to put a threaded coupling onto the male end, a 6" Flanged x NPT into that, and then a 6"x4" flanged reducer to go to the pump?  In any case I don't know enough about your application to know if there would otherwise be any hydraulic problems (or with the pump etc.) with any such arrangements.

Thanks very much for your advice - I appreciate the response.  This is a vacuum pumping application and many of the vacuum connection-hardware vendors use "ASA" instead of "ANSI" designation.  We've decided the best solution is to weld a 6"x4" conical reducer to the 6" MxNPT nipples, and we'll buy and weld a mating 4" ASA/ANSI flange to meet the pump's 4" ASA.  6" ASA has 11" flange OD, 4" ASA 9" OD, both have 8 boltholes.
Thanks again,
CPMR
