Hi speed hi load bearing materials

Hi speed hi load bearing materials

Hi speed hi load bearing materials

(OP)
Looking for some good suggestions for hydrodynamic bearing materials, such as stainless steel, cast iron. Rpms in the 7k range, loads possible to 10k plus/sq in.
Compatability with steel alloy shafting. And what about using DLC?

RE: Hi speed hi load bearing materials

Is there some reason you would not want to use Babbit?

RE: Hi speed hi load bearing materials

You don't want to use stainless in bearings.
The only bearings that I recall that handle these loads are the tri-metal connecting rod type.  The are usually a steel backing with a layer of lead bronze and then a 0.001" face of babbit.
You could use CI as a backing, but it would need to be high strength.
The other surface is usually a nitrided or carborized steel.
