Pipe Size for thermowell installation

Pipe Size for thermowell installation

Pipe Size for thermowell installation

(OP)
Is there a minimum pipe size needed for a thermowell installation?  I have seen some example installations where pipe 3" and below is increased to 4" for a short length specifically for the thermowell.

any Ideas?
thanks
Mark

RE: Pipe Size for thermowell installation

The shortest common well length is 2.5-inches.  Thus, small pipe is often enlarged to 4 NPS.  Other techniques include elbow insertion.

RE: Pipe Size for thermowell installation

That is why I love elbow-lets.  If increasing to 4" NPS is inpractical, see if the engineer will let you use one of these instead.  This way your probe won't hit the other side of the end wall.

or 45 degree insertions.

RE: Pipe Size for thermowell installation

Hi, I'm a pipingdraftsman from Europe and worked for a company called Dow Chemical.
They had a presentation about thermowells in 2003,
where they found a supplier who delivered small wells.
Even in a 1" line you didn't have to enlarge the size.
Can someone tell me what supplier(s) have tese wells?

Greetings.

RE: Pipe Size for thermowell installation

Most suppliers carry smaller thermowells, what you need to worry about is the instrument that goes in it.  You need to check with the people who are spec'ing out the instruements.
