Cleaning large motors in-place

Cleaning large motors in-place

Cleaning large motors in-place

(OP)
Does anyone have experience with trying to clean end-windings of large horiztal motors in-place?

We have not had good luck trying to use spray solvents.  (Our partial discharge levels increased afterwards...indicating we probably concentrated a lot of the dirt toward the bottom of the end-winding)

I've heard a little bit about new methods like CO2, ultasonic... but not sure if they are adaptable to field cleaning.

Any thoughts?

RE: Cleaning large motors in-place

What is the corn cob blasting. Is it a new method of cleaning the motor at site.

RE: Cleaning large motors in-place

We would like to configure an electric motor, that produces 50 KVA, with a view to driving a propeller on a boat.  Can you tell us where we might begin the search for someone who can build it for us?

Thank you,

Greg Lloyd Smith

I'm curious why you want an electric motor boat?

RE: Cleaning large motors in-place

Suggestion: Generically, this will depend on material/insulation chemical structure if any chemical will be used. The chemical shall be harmless to the insulation and other material used there. Else, the last resort is probably the manual cleaning by using large motor rewinding Firm expertise.
