Weldolet and Header Schedule Why the need to specify

Weldolet and Header Schedule Why the need to specify

Weldolet and Header Schedule Why the need to specify

(OP)
A  manufacturer has requested the pipe schedule with a stainless steel weldolet specification. The manufacturer couldnt answer why this was required.

A review of an old Caltex specification also contained this requirement.

We can only assume it has to do with the weld preparation on the weldolet and the amount of heat one would put into the weld.

Can anyone answer definitively why this is required.

RE: Weldolet and Header Schedule Why the need to specify

At first glance of your post, I thought that the wall schedule had to deal with the post weld treatment requirements.

I  looked at an old 'Bonney Forge Branch Connections' catalog and found the following:
"Generally, the schedules of the run pipe and branch pipe are identical and thus specification of the equivalent schedule Weldolet assures the proper fitting being used....Where the scedule of the run is greater or less than the schedule of the branch, it is essential that both schedules be specified since (a) the Weldolet'
s reinforcing characteristics are a function of the run pipe wall thickness, which in turn designates the schedule of the basic Weldolet to be used; (b) the wall thickness of the outlet or branch end must match the wall thickness of the branch pipe.  The weldolet is then priced on the basis of the heavier wall thickness, with a special bore charge, if applicasble."

Geoff, isn't it amazing how "old books" are still relevant in these days of better, faster (pay more to play) software?

It was amazing to find that the supplier who requested the information, one of the world's largest, was unable to provide an answer as to why? Now, perhaps, it can appear in their catalogue.

Hope all you suppliers out there are reading this message!
