Pipeline Surge Software

Pipeline Surge Software

(OP)
What is a good Pipeline Surge Calculation Program, to make detailed surge calcuations for when valve at discharge of delivery station is shut:  station piping surge, propagation of surge up mainline, additive reflective surge waves on mainline and along branch laterals

...am dealing with 12-inch delivery station piping at the end of a 100 mile 16-inch mainline pipeline.

Here's 7 of them,  I have only used the first two and tried the last one a little...so far.

I've tried Win Sim, but found it not to be very convenient for pipelines although it seems to work well for short pipes and process units.

RE: Pipeline Surge Software

BTW, I'd recommend on taking a 1 wk training course.  Ramp up is a whole lot faster than self-start.  Doing a full detailed model with minimal pumping and control systems (not using default values) involves quite a bit of mfgr data entry, debugging and tuning and will be a full time job for around a month to get it right.

RE: Pipeline Surge Software

Go to www.pipingdesign.com and look at papers there on surge analysis. There is reference to many software packages. Also there is a reference to a paper on what makes a good software package by Flowmaster.

I have used AFT's Impulse for ten years and find the product and support to be excellent.

RE: Pipeline Surge Software

I would recommend Flownex created by M-Tech Industrial. I've used Flowmaster, RELAP, COBRA, FLUENT, etc.  I must say that for system analysis, Flownex is far more superior than any of the software I've ever used.  It is extremely fast, stable and complete. I can do real complex piping designs in less than 2 hours!

Go to www.Flownex.com.
