I've received a quote from a Chinese supplier that specifies GB 10 material as a substitue for AISI 1010. I can find no reference to GB 10 in any of the literature I have available to me, nor can I find anything on the internet. Does anyone have any info on GB 10 material that they can share? Is it a suitable substitute for AISI 1010? Thanks.

Grade 10 according to the Chinese standard GB 699 is essentially the same chemical composition as grade 1010 according to SAE J403.  AISI no longer maintains chemical composition standards, so it is not appropriate to refer to the grade as AISI 1010.  The reason you cannot find anything about this grade is because the Chinese standards authority CSA does not translate their standards in English.  References like Stahlschlüssel and ASM's Worldwide Guide to Equivalent Irons and Steels, 5th Edition show the composition.  Use the following links for more information on these references:
