Ring Joint Flanges (High Temp Service)
Ring Joint Flanges (High Temp Service)
(OP)
Hi All,
In your infinite collective experience, have any of you observed ring joint gaskets 'bottoming out' in their machined groove.
Was the root cause of this (or possible gasket leaks) ever identified?
Lets assume high temperature, high pressure service, a 316SS oval gasket in a 321SS flange to B16.5.
Many thanks in advance.

RE: Ring Joint Flanges (High Temp Service)
Can you comeback with a few more details?
What sizes and temperature?
Have you gaged the groove?
What type ring and flange?
Or you using on time gaskets?
Anything else you might think of.
RE: Ring Joint Flanges (High Temp Service)
Design pressure is around 17,500 kPA and operates around 15,500 kPA at a gas temperature of 460 degC.
8" NB to ASME B16.5 A182 321H weld neck Flange, working on behalf of a client, so am not sure if they have gauged the groove. Can you explain what an 'on time gasket' is? we may have different terminology.

You might have flange problem.
Can you comeback with a little more information on your flanges as to class of the 16.5 and a better description of the 8" NB flange?
Here is the Wood Company site an excellent source of information on RTJ flanges and gaskets.
