DESIGN OF GRILLAGE FOUNDATION

DESIGN OF GRILLAGE FOUNDATION

DESIGN OF GRILLAGE FOUNDATION

(OP)
I am designing a steel grillage foundation for a telecommunication tower. Where can i find some info and/or guidelines on designing this type of foundation? My reaction at the base of the tower is very high and because of site conditions a concrete spread footing type foundation is not an option. I am not sure how the load is going to be transfered to the steel beams. i am assuming the beams at the extremeties will carry less load then the interior beams. any info would be great.

RE: DESIGN OF GRILLAGE FOUNDATION

Since grillage foundations were popular in the early 20th century, a good place to get information is from publications of that time. Take a look on page 252 of "Carnegie Pocket Companion - 1923". This book can be downloaded from at my website at this link

SRE:  Always good to have some "old references", eh?  Remind you of another topic?
