Pools

Pools

(OP)
I have had a request to design a pool wall using CMU. I have no problems running the calcs, but I was wondering about durability, etc. Client says he is going to use a liner, so I wouldnt think that water from the pool would be an issue. I am worried about water from the soil side. Any recomendations?

RE: Pools

Why worry?  All reinforcement will be in grouted cells.

RE: Pools

Make sure you have good drainage in the backfill no matter if there is a liner or not.  You also need to design the wall as if it were retaining the 62.4pcf of the pool.

RE: Pools

The empty pool with lateral soil pressure in a saturated condition is usually the controlling case.  Check bouyancy in that case also and increase the mass to negate "floating the pool" out of the saturated ground.
